Protopia Group is a think tank and research organization led by students and early-career professionals researching growth and innovation. We focus on identifying, analyzing, and evaluating datasets that shed insight on this major neglected global problem. As part of our work, we replicate and share academic insights, analyze a diverse range of sources using a data-driven approach, and publish pieces to inform policymakers, decision-makers, and other researchers about the latest trends in growth and innovation.
We are currently recruiting for our Research and Analysis Team and Interviews Team! Please see the job descriptions for more details and apply via the forms linked below before 23:59, November 11th.
All positions are voluntary and will likely be on a remote basis with an expected weekly commitment of about 6-10 hours. We do not offer full-time or paid job opportunities. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Researchers
Responsibilities:
We are currently looking for researchers passionate about understanding growth and innovation to join our research team. Researchers will have the opportunity to:
perform literature reviews, identify data gaps, and analyse existing trends and developments of growth and innovation
produce graphs and data visualizations to complement and inform analysis from datasets on patents, venture capital fundraising, infrastructure, licensing, entrepreneurship, productivity growth, and more
engage with a new, exciting research field on a neglected problem, learning about growth and innovation from theoretical and empirical perspectives
contribute to Protopia’s research projects, produce interactive data visualizations, and perform statistical analysis on interesting datasets
publish their work on Protopia’s website and relevant social media outlets, as well as interact with our partners at the frequency of approximately once per quarter
join a community of students and early-career researchers at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and other top universities passionate about growth and innovation, working with team members from diverse backgrounds
Protopia is also working on building an Innovation Dashboard, which summarizes and visualizes statistics and live data about growth and innovation trends across countries. Knowledge of programming languages, website design, and experience working with large datasets is required. If you are interested in contributing to this project, please specify this clearly in your application.
Skills and characteristics:
Researchers should:
demonstrate an interest in growth and innovation as well as a willingness to learn and develop knowledge of relevant topics
show an understanding of the current news cycle and themes in growth and innovation, with a desire to improve the status quo
be self-driven and possess strong analytical, writing and communication skills, the ability to interpret and analyze data, and attention to detail
be prepared to work in a remote environment and deliver high-quality content in a fast-paced environment
be able to deliver high-quality outcomes at pace
(preferred) demonstrate proficiency in another language, programming and technical skills (R, Python, Stata, Excel, GIS, Tableau), and experience in working on policy analysis, data science projects, data journalism, and/or academic research
The expected time commitment is 5–8 hours per week, which can be completed alongside full-time work or studies.

Interviews Team
Responsibilities:
We are currently looking for individuals passionate about understanding growth and innovation to join our interviews team. Interview producers will:
develop their network of leading researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the growth and innovation space by identifying and inviting potential interview guests
help contribute to Protopia’s platform by editing interviews and their transcripts for clarity and balance, as well as develop our social media pages
publish interviews on Protopia’s website and relevant media platforms and engage with our partners
join a community of students and early-career researchers at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, and other top universities passionate about growth and innovation, working with team members from diverse backgrounds
Skills and characteristics:
